World PvP and High-Risk
Choose Your Open World Ruleset
Warcraft Reborn takes place entirely on a single server and in a single phase so that the whole population can play and thrive together.
To account for this, players can toggle between PvE or PvP modes at any time in a rested zone, changing between PvE, PvP, and High-Risk PvP modes. This allows strictly PvE heroes to never worry about fighting or being ganked by other players, while providing the flexibility to shift and play around at any time. By the same token, it allows PvP focused adventurers to play their way while gaining the benefits of more potential allies while questing and for PvE activities like Dungeons, Raids, and even Battlegrounds.
You can toggle between any risk style you like in Rested Areas.

- Choose between 3 modes all in a shared phase:
- PvE Mode - No PvP AT ALL. You will NEVER be attacked by another player
- War Mode - World PvP with no loss on death, 10% increased experience, and the ability to obtain new crafting materials.
- High-Risk - World PvP with item loss on death, 15% increased experience, and the ability to obtain Bloodforged Gear–powerful PvP versions of classic loot–while leveling and end-game. Also gain Marks of War.
- Note: High Risk PvP players can be attacked by anyone in High Risk or in War Mode.
A Focus on World PvP
The focus is being put on fun world PvP with meaningful rewards. High-Risk’s focus is shifting to the personal risk you choose to incur. End-game crafting materials once exclusive to High-Risk are now also obtainable in War Mode, allowing world PvP to thrive without requiring High-Risk. All players across all PvE and PvP modes now share a single phase, ensuring you experience an active and engaging open world throughout leveling and at end-game.
The goal is for fun and rewarding World PvP to become available to everyone, not just those willing to take on the extremes of High-Risk mode. You can opt into greater danger of High-Risk for greater rewards, or avoid PvP entirely with PvE mode. Each choice defines how you experience the game, while ensuring meaningful world content is not locked behind High-Risk play.
Whether you’re in War Mode or High Risk, you can do battle with other players. High Risk players get more bonus EXP and can find powerful loot while leveling, but if they die–to a player, to a mob, to fall damage, AT ALL–they’ll drop a chest of their gear as spoils. This means High Risk PvPers take on additional risk for powerful significant rewards.
- This creates a great World PvP where High-Risk PvP can exist inside of World PvP.
- Whether you want to risk your gear or not, you can enjoy PvP
- All world PvP happens in the same phase
- Bloodforged and Heroic Bloodforged PvP gear remain an exclusive reward of High-Risk.
- Mercenary Mode can be activated in both War Mode and High-Risk to enable FFA PvP.
- Group cross faction across all 3 modes:
- PvE Players cannot assist PvP Mode Players.
- War Mode and High-Risk players can only assist their own faction.
- Mercenaries can only assist other Mercenaries.
- This allows you to group with your friends, regardless of preferred PvP mode or faction, while maintaining fair PvP.
PvP Mode Grouping Rules
- Players can group with anyone, regardless of faction or PvP Mode.
- PvE players cannot heal, buff, or dispel War Mode or High-Risk players.
- Ensures friends can play together even if they prefer different rulesets while maintaining fair PvP encounters.
- PvE players can assist other PvE players cross faction.
- War Mode and High-Risk players can assist each other if they are the same faction.
- PvP players cannot assist the opposite faction or Mercenaries.
- Mercenaries can assist other Mercenaries regardless of faction or PvP Mode.
- A same faction War Mode player can assist a same faction High-Risk player.
You can group with any other player regardless of each other's faction or PvP preference. This ensures you can always play with friends and make new ones! The distinction lies in assistance: PvE players cannot aid PvP players, while War Mode and High-Risk players can only support same-faction allies. Mercenaries stand apart, able to help other mercenaries regardless of faction. Grouping remains open, but direct assistance like healing, buffing, or dispelling respects PvP mode choices.
Mercenary Mode Enables FFA PvP and Cross Faction PvP Grouping

- Mercenary for Hire
- Activates FFA PvP. Allows you to attack and be attacked by your own faction and other mercenaries.
- This allows grouping with the opposite faction in PvP and assisting them if you are both Mercenaries.
- Available to both War Mode and High-Risk players
- Automatically learned at level 15 when World PvP becomes available
- Can be casted anywhere, even out in the open world, with a 10 second cast time.
- You can remove your Mercenary status while in a rested area by casting For the Horde or For the Alliance.
Fel Commutation for High-Risk
Fel Commutation allows you to insure your gear so that it doesn’t drop in High Risk if you die. You can turn it on to drop gold instead of your gear.

- Felcom averages your currently equipped items and costs a flat amount of gold when you die to protect your gear from dropping. You will always drop the exact amount of gold that you’ll drop on death.
End-Game War Mode Crafting Materials

- Some unique and powerful Crafting Materials can ONLY be obtained in War Mode or High-Risk
- Thematic materials exist across all end-game zones for you to discover
- Yeti Hides have a chance to drop from Yetis in Winterspring, and can be cured at refiners found by the Hot Springs.
- Abomination Hooks can drop from Abominations in Eastern and Western Plaguelands. Rumors point to the Scarlet Crusade having ways to purify this tainted metal.
- War Mode Crafting Materials can only be refined at refining stations found in the open world
- Must be in War Mode or High-Risk to refine these materials.
- Crafting Recipes that make use of these new War Mode Materials drop from all open world creatures for all modes, including PvE mode.
These new War Mode crafting materials are used to create new item enchantments and consumables highly desired by raiders.
You gain the ability to find these materials by enabling PvP–either War Mode or High Risk.
High Risk players can travel to end-game zones to find these powerful materials, ensuring that high-level zones are hotspots for World PvP.
